Biography

Alex Rozhin received the M.S. degree in Physics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev, Ukraine in 1998 and PhD degree in Solid State Physics from Institute for Semiconductor Physics, National Academy of Science of Ukraine in 2001. From 2001 to 2002, he was a Researcher with the Institute for Semiconductor Physics NASU, Ukraine. From 2002 to 2005 he was Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) & AIST Postdoctoral Fellow with National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan. From 2005 to 2009, he was a Senior Research Associate with the Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics, University of Cambridge, UK. Since 2009 he has been a Lecturer and a Senior Lecturer (2012) in Nanotechnology with the Aston University, UK. He is a co-governor of Nanotechnology Research Group and leader of Nanomaterials Photonics at Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies. Dr. Rozhin has published about 60 journal and 20 conference papers (including pioneering works on mode-locking of fibre and waveguide lasers by Carbon Nanotubes) in the area of photonic and nonlinear optical materials, fibre lasers, fibre communication devices, photonic sensors made 10 patent applications. Dr Rozhin’s research has been supported by a number of highly competitive grants from the Royal Society, British Council, BBSRC, NATO, FP7 EU, JSPS.

Research Interest

Rozhin’s current research interests span nanomaterials synthesis by laser ablation and wet chemistry route, nanomaterials surface functionalization, optical spectroscopy of nanomaterials, development of nanocomposites for photonic applications, solid-state physics and biophysics. He is working on designing and developing novel ultrafast fibre and waveguide lasers, polymer waveguides, signal regenerative filters, fibre and waveguide sensors, microfluidic devices.
